by No Dogs Allowed
Kernersville, N.C. - Katherine Atkins’ boyfriend had to work late yesterday evening, so the 25-year-old woman fed his pit bulls their dinner. Or at least, she tried to. As Atkins entered their pen, the two pits – a male and a female – attacked and killed Atkins. Her body was discovered around 6:25 p.m Monday by Atkins’ boyfriend’s roommate.
Atkins had known the pits since they were pups, and often fed them.
Forsyth County animal control officials seized the dogs and euthanized them. Both dogs will undergo a necropsy for reasons I don’t understand – is this done to determine whether or not a dog ingested human flesh? Or if it had rabies? I don’t know.
Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies say no criminal charges are expected to be filed in this case, which reminded me of what we’ve said before: death by dog is perfectly legal!
Does anyone know what the U.S. death-by-pit-bull toll is so far this year?
